Institutional Biosafety Committee
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for monitoring and ensuring that all research projects that involve recombinant DNA (rDNA) materials adhere to the NIH guidelines and other federal policies regardless of funding sources. Each investigator working with rDNA is responsible for understanding and following the NIH guidelines.
The IBC holds monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of each calendar month, with exceptions for holidays. Membership of the IBC includes scientists, clinical investigators, the biological safety officer, a veterinarian, and administrators from UT Southwestern. Ex officio members represent Safety, Facilities, Institutional Review Board, Occupational Health, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Compliance, and Legal Affairs.
Minutes for IBC meetings are available as soon as they receive full committee approval. Per NIH NOT-OD-25-082, copies of minutes taking place on or after June 1, 2025 can be accessed below. Minutes from meetings before June 2025 can be requested by submitting an open record request
